What PileBreak collects, why, and how to remove it.
Last updated 2026-10-12
PileBreak is an app for photographing clutter, breaking it into items, and turning those items into projects. To do that it has to handle photographs and the information you attach to them. This policy explains exactly what we collect, who processes it, how long we keep it, and how to delete it.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
Account information: your email address and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in readable form). If you sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier and email address Apple shares according to your choices. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and Google account identifier.
Your content: the photographs you take or select, the items detected in them, and the descriptions, notes, item names, quantities, locations and project details you add or that are generated for you.
Location information: if you choose to tag a pile with a location, we store what you provide. Location is optional and never collected in the background.
Usage and diagnostic data: whether requests succeed or fail, AI-scan credit usage against your membership tier, and technical error information used to keep the Service working.
Identifiers: your PileBreak account ID, used to keep your data separate from other users' data and to sync your devices.
To provide the Service: storing your photographs and item data, syncing them between your devices and the web portal, and displaying them back to you.
To identify items in your photographs using automated image recognition (see section 4).
To enforce membership limits, such as the number of items you may keep in your Vault.
To keep the Service secure and working: preventing unauthorised access, diagnosing failures, and preventing abuse.
We do not use your content to train our own or anyone else's AI models.
To turn photographs into items, PileBreak sends the photograph to a third-party image-recognition provider, together with the instructions needed to return item names, quantities and descriptions. The provider returns that result to us, and we store it with your pile.
This means your photograph is processed by a third party for the purpose of producing the item list. It is not used by us for advertising or profiling, and it is not published.
The categories of service providers we use to run PileBreak are: cloud hosting and database infrastructure; file storage for photographs; an image-recognition provider; an application hosting provider for the web portal; and a subscription-management provider (RevenueCat) that records your membership purchases and status against your PileBreak account ID. Where a provider handles your data it does so on our instructions and under contract.
Payment processing: membership purchases are handled by Apple. We receive your subscription status (plan, renewal and expiry dates) from Apple through our subscription-management provider. We never receive or store your card details.
Your data is stored with our cloud infrastructure provider. Photographs are stored in object storage, and item and project data in a managed database.
Data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Data is encrypted at rest by our infrastructure provider. Access to your rows is enforced at the database level so that a signed-in account can only reach its own records.
Our Security page describes these controls in more detail.
Your content is kept while your account is active. Items you delete are removed from your active data; where a deleted pile is kept restorable, it stays in a deleted state that is excluded from your normal lists until you erase it permanently or delete your account.
When you delete your account, your personal information, piles, items, projects and uploaded photographs are removed from our active systems. Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before being overwritten in the ordinary course.
We may retain a limited set of records where we are legally required or have a legitimate need to — for example billing or tax records, and records needed to investigate abuse or resolve disputes. We keep those only as long as necessary for the purpose that justifies them.
Aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer be linked to you may be kept for analytics and product improvement.
You can access and correct most of your information directly in the app. You can delete individual items, erase a pile permanently, or delete your entire account from within the app.
You can contact us at pilebreak+support@gmail.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to ask for a portable copy.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights — for example under the GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, there is no "do not sell" opt-out to exercise.
PileBreak is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We and our service providers may process your information in countries other than the one you live in. Where we transfer personal information out of a jurisdiction that restricts transfers, we use appropriate safeguards recognised under applicable law.
We may update this policy. When we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
